Constructivist theatre artist and painter of the Georgian avant-garde
Biography
Irakli Gamrekeli was a painter, graphic artist, and stage designer associated with the Georgian avant-garde. His theatre designs used bold planes, mechanical rhythm, and expressive geometry.
His work with modern theatre and film made him part of the same experimental culture as Otskheli, while his drawings and designs preserve a distinctly Georgian branch of Constructivist visual language.
