Landscape painter of old Tbilisi, mountain towns, and memory
Biography
Elene Akhvlediani studied in Tbilisi, Rome, and Paris before becoming one of Georgia's essential landscape painters. Her street views and mountain towns balance architectural structure with lyric atmosphere.
She was also a major theatre artist, but her painted views of old Tbilisi and Georgian regions remain central to the country's visual memory.
